Mounting Instructions and Flag and Lock Assembly

Mounting Instructions        Flag Assembly        Lock Assembly         Upper Door Handle Assembly

MailGuard can be mounted on a 4x4 wooden (suggested) or to most other types of posts.  MailGuard can also be mounted directly to the outside wall of your home or place of business, on brick, wood, cement, or aluminum siding etc.  Mailboxes must be placed to conform to state laws and highway regulations.  Customers are requested to contact the local Post Office before erecting the security mailbox to ensure its correct placement and height on at the street.
  • The post must be of adequate strength and size; a treated 4x4 wood post is suggested.
  • Before starting installation, cut a triangle wedge off the upper end of the post as illustrated here, this prevents water from accumulating between the post and the mailbox.
  • Secure the 4x4 post in the ground to a depth of approximately 42 inches below ground surface.  You may use cement to secure the post, if allowed by your state and local laws and postal regulations.
  • The mounting holes are located on the back wall of MailGuard and are reached through the lower door opening.
  • Using the indentation track in the back of MailGuard as a guide, mark the proper height and position of the 4 mounting holes on the post (see illustration).
  • Drill 4 holes in the post in the marked positions.
  • Attach MailGuard to the post using the 4 provided rust proof bolts.
  • For address identification, letters and numbers should be mounted directly on the post below the lower end of MailGuard (on both sides).  Letters or numbers should not be less than one inch in height.
  • For best results we suggest you stain the post the same color as the mailbox.

Mounting The MailGuard Mailbox to a Flat Wall

  • Contact your local post office for the required height of the mail box on the wall.

  • Mark on the wall the position of the 4 mounting holes in the back wall of the mailbox.

  • A wooden filler may be needed to fill the space between the back of the mailbox and the wall.

  • Attach the mailbox to the wall using the 4 provided rust proof bolts.

*For mounting to a non-wooden post follow the post manufacturer's instructions.
*The body of this product, the flag and two doors are warranted for defects in material or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase.

Flag Assembly

For the safety of your outgoing mail, we suggest that you take it directly to the post office or to a postal service collection box.  Insert the nylon busing, smaller diameter down, into the largest hole in the flag.  Place the flag on the flag hole in the upper part of the left side of the mailbox.  Use the provided 1/4x20x3/4 screw to attach the flag to the mailbox.

Lock Assembly

You are provided with one cam lock and 2 keys.  Pulling on the key when it is in the unlocked position will open the lower door.  To assemble the lock, place the key cylinder threads through the lock opening in the lower door of the mailbox.  Place the thread jam nut onto the key cylinder and tighten down.  Take the locking arm and position its square opening over the square in the key cylinder.  Place the 1/4x20x1/4 screw into the key cylinder and tighten.  We suggest to have the door locked with the key is in the 12 o'clock position and the door unlocked when the key is in the 3 o'clock position.
